For investors

Investments in a optical fiber network involve millions of euros, which is why Reggefiber requires a certain assurance that it can fill its optical fiber network with sufficient capacity to recover the investment. Reggefiber has a clearly innovative vision in the telecom world; it considers the network as immovable property where returns on investment are to be recovered in 20 to 30 years.

National roll-out

In the role of ‘Passive Operator’, Reggefiber’s ambition is to realise the national roll-out of an FttH network. Reggefiber employs an open network model where both 'Active Operators' and service providers gain non-discriminatory access to the FttH network. Reggefiber’s revenues consist of reimbursements to be paid by the ‘Active Operators’ for the use of the passive network.

Market

Over the last 10 years, the Netherlands has become one of the leading markets worldwide in the area of broadband, with (currently) a relatively small share of optical fiber. The wide broadband penetration is expressed in a considerable growth of new services and innovative ICT solutions. In turn, the use of new applications has resulted in a growing need for bandwidth and demand for larger capacity.

Now that the copper network cannot be upgraded much further to deal with higher speeds, in most areas coax cables are the only available alternative for consumers who require higher bandwidth. Also based on the experiences in their current projects, Reggefiber is convinced of the market need for a future-proof alternative. Reggefiber is looking to provide this through the national roll-out of a optical fiber network with bandwidths of over 100 Mb/s.
